Seven steps for a perfect sunset in Madrid

Everybody loves a sunset and Madrileños (those who live in Madrid) have a special place to enjoy this evening ritual. On the western hills of Madrid, not far from the Royal Palace, is a site called El Templo de Debod. In 1968, as a gesture of gratitude, Egypt donated the second century B.C. Templo de Debod to Spain, and this temple was later rebuilt in Madrid as the centerpiece of a beautiful park, which is a magnet for sunset seekers.

Here are my suggestions to enjoy a perfect sunset at this spectacular location:

1) Go with a group of friends.
2) Arrive one hour in advance on a sunny or partly cloudy day.
3) Spread out a blanket on the lawn and enjoy a picnic dinner with all your favorite Iberian specialties.
4) Listen to street musicians who provide great ambiance with their guitar strumming music. Remember to support their art by giving them a few euros.
5) About 10 minutes prior to the sun dropping below the horizon, observe the multi-colored sky on the park's western edge.
6) As daylight disappears, admire the beautifully illuminated ruins with the dramatic backdrop of the deepening sky.
7) Linger and soak in the magical evening mood, and as we say in Spanish, "¡Disfruta!"
