Finals are over, but not school!

It seems as if I just finished a series of final exams in early May only to have more! The school year here in Spain is divided into three trimesters, and after each trimester are exams, similar to semester exams in the U.S. At the end of the school year, Spanish students take another series of tests called exámenes globales. These exams cover the material taught in all three trimesters throughout the entire year, which make trimester exams seem like a breeze.

In the past, these exámenes globales are at the end of the school year in late June. However, this year, the Ministry of Education decided they want all examines globales grades reported by June 8th. So, my school moved the exámenes globales dates to the end of May to allow teachers sufficient time to correct and calculate grades. We were all thrilled when we finished the last exam June 1st and then had a BBQ at a classmate's home to kick off the many celebrations.

For the remaining three weeks until the last day of school, June 22nd, we attend class and do many things that we typically would have done prior to the exámenes globales  In my science classes, we are doing additional labs, in Spanish language class, we are holding debates on various topics. We show up, participate and do our best, yet none of this counts towards our grades. Interestingly enough, we continue to be motivated and do our work, even if it's not for grades. Hmmmm, an interesting concept....
