Valencia and its modern innovation

As August came to an end, my mother flew to Madrid to join me and my sister Anne, who also spent the month of August in Spain. Because our new school in Madrid doesn’t start until mid-September, we hopped on a train and headed to the Costa Blanca on the Mediterranean Sea to explore Valencia, the third largest city in Spain.

After spending the morning exploring the center of Valencia, we started to walk back towards the hotel and passed over a bridge. But, when we looked down from the bridge, instead of a river, we saw a beautiful green park, alive with people strolling, biking and picnicking. When the river flooded in the 1950’s, a massive landfill project converted it into a park.

Joining the crowd, we walked several kilometers until what appeared to be space ships came into sight. Scattered among large reflecting pools, these curvy, shiny “space ships” were actually innovative, modern museums making up the Ciudad de las Artes y la Ciencias (City of the Arts and Sciences). This futuristic city is the highlight of the port town of Valencia. Of course, I didn’t mind the beautiful beaches and the opportunity to swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea. :)

My sister, Anne, and me in La Ciudad de las Artes y la Ciencias.
